Yes, i know, the last show didn`t appear on the website! I had automated it all - my PVR was to record it, then it was FTP'd to my PC, where it was Demuxed into Mpeg2 Audio, then zinged to REAL audio and Uploaded to This site.. OF COARSE the PVR failed.. Widespread reports of compatibility for the REAL files - all work fine on Windows and Linux with REALplayer, and the "dual" stream is playable realtime from the Web on Nokia 6xxx/nGAGE and Sony/Ericcsonn smartfones, as well as working (kind of) using a Compaq iPac Handheld/iR modem combo! (not that anyone can afford to do 2 hours of streaming via GPRS, but it`s a nice thought i suppose..) - you need to "open" the link on the phone, or just download the file onto your memory card and you are away! So.. this week's SHOW is a solid 2hour+ chunk in REALmedia format.. We'll keep it this way untill we find a reason to go back to Microsoft - but the Linux stuff is enuf to keep it REAL (baby).

So.. looks like someone has uploaded some experimental REAL media to playthatbeat.net.. some chunks of the already ledgendary (cos' they are no longer..) DAN FILLINS.. the big one, that's 2-hours long, should work well on Symbian Phones, ipaqs and the like, and all should be groovy on Linux boxes of all flavours.. Really annoyed at the hit-n-miss of Windows media files.. The REAL ones are much more portableish.. i hope.. Whatever.

Hit the shows page for the latest playback! More experimentation this time - still in 2 chunks (minus the f*ckup at the start), but i dropped the bandwidth to 64k from 96k, reducing the filesize dramaticly - so much in fact, i may hold 3 weeks or even a month on the shows page from now on.. Still in 2 minds about switching to REAL media - the filesize is larger, but you'd be able to do them on Linux and Symbian Phones/PDAs.. mmm.. Oh, and i Normalised the clips this time - so the volume should be up there, and the Visualisations in MEDIA PLAYER should go mental now

Shows section has been updated.. look here for a tester... Did this week in 2 chunks for easier grabbage/playage on Dialup connections, and changed the harvesting method from USB-Dongle FM radio straight to WindoZe Media N-coder to Digital Capture of the 2FM Stream on The Astra2 satellite, and then encoding it later.. The levels are crappy though - the visualisation in MEDIA PLAYER is a little un-impressive - next week i'll Normalise it.. Toying with doing it in REAL format instead, but the files are about 20% bigger, with the only advantage bieng Dialup connections are handled better.. Mmm.. Dunno.. Does anyone actually listen to the thing live on Dialup? I mean REALLY? nah.. it`s "right-click" all the way on Dialup FFS. Must look into it more, cos REAL medial is a cinch on Linux and Symbian Phones (like nGAGE/6x00/Sony-Ericsson and so on..), although the auld .wma is pretty portable too, especially if you have a Hardware Player in your Jammer or the Pad.. (as you do)
