So.. interesting weekend.. JOHN POWER made a double-surprise step-up this saturday, not only covering my midnight slot, but also the slot inbetween the G'ster and me as Al-the-G's mum is ill and he couldn`t make it in... Brave little Power fellah! OK, filling for me is kinda easy really - since i`m banished to the midnight hour, there is little pressure to deliver anything Kewl, especially with a totally unrelated 3-hour filler bridging the gap between G'ster and me, making sure the audience doesn`t build to any decent numbers - a masterstroke IMHO (not).. But still, a year after the OZ evacuation, the profile in need of adjustment and all that - but to have to fill 5 HOURS on the first outing - nice one JP.. It`s a mammoth task.. And it meant for the first time in 6 months, it was possible to listen from 6pm to 2am, without having to switch over or slap on a CD.. Excellent. Well, not entirely excellent, as the anal retentives amoung you will have noted, it WAS a bit raggidy at times, but i`ll put that down to having Prep's for a 2-hour gig, and then ending up doing a 5-hour lad with only 120 minutes notice! Yay!

Sadly, any implications that the Club-scene is in decline were once again dashed this weekend.. record responses to G'ster's ticket giveaways (yes, i know, fuc*ing tickets - sometimes i wonder what happend to the creativity that used to go into radio..) and record swapming of the Bogey text line for Power.. and then a "sweat pouring off the walls" situation in McDAID's in Tralee.. Have to shout Ger H and his happy crew for making me feel very welcome, and managing to stuff the place with such a ridiculously up-for-it bunch! I was actually on the manor for a family occation (planting great-auntie Leslie actually.. and no disrespect, but it`s the way she would have wanted it, her bieng the only 77-year-old i ever knew that loved SYSTEM OF A DOWN and HARDFLOOR..) and the chance to mallet in Tralee was most welcome, again.. On the surface, Tralee hasn`t changed in a year (has it been that long etc..), except for the convertion of HORANs into a modern art gallery - yep, and it looked like they were exhibiting the work of a perticularly angry urban artist, who specialises in "TO LET" and "GORN ORF" and "NAH" banners... Oh yes, it`s totally not there any more.. Imminently to become a LiDL or a carpark, or worse.. And there was much pontification asto the phuture of the tralee clubscene.. McD's is actualy about to change hands, apparently to the Ex-Horan's crew, and the now meatiest venue in the district FABRIC is about to become the sole outlet for anything other then Bad "nigga-this nigga-that" whitesploitation bullshit Rn'B bollocks.. Yep.. and they have got the technology apparently.. Nice big place, blah blah.. I heard talk of the usual Promoters all hovering around it and rattling off big names, and not so big names that always seem to end up gigging in new(ish) places when the big names bottle out of the trip.. You know the type - the type of bloke/bird that is REALLY a driver / dealer / mate of a Name DJ, but somehow gets gigs in far away places that haven`t got thier Facts 100% straight about who they are booking.. This is all fine though, as the Punters (that's YOU) have EXCELLENT recall, and can instantly spot a stuffed name on a lineup.. I was reassured of this on saturday, when someone in the outer-recreational area (the smoking yard) went on a future-rant about the big names offered to FABRIC, while his mate pulled "who???" faces at the the suspicious names.. Ah yes, it`s great to be reassured.. i`d actually forgotton how clued in we all are..

Speaking of Clued in.. I had (as you do) to do the limerick-kerry-cork ring in the Skyline this weekend.. And i`m delighted to announce that it can do 370 miles to a tank if i drive it like a granny.. Keep it off boost and within spoofing distance of the speed limit, and it behaves very well.. And WHAT a scan i had on the way.. Sunday afternoon/evening was interesting going around cork.. Usual pleasing collection of Pulsars and GTs, one or 2 EVOs, and all of the drivers FULLY pretending they couldn`t see me.. Wow, you lot are so Unfriendly this weekend! Jaysus.. But your radio scene is well healthy 2 Main Hobby stations - KLUB and ++BPM++ were both logged from mallow through to cashel-ish (folded dipole on the back shelf, and a AOR 3000 + 25db preamp if you must know..) I DID listen to RED for a little bit - an album review show that was highly entertaining, that is untill it turned into the "plug a gig" show (as you do) giving away fuc*ing tickets again, this time for stuff in July FFS! I mean, P L E A S E... sure, yer man on the mic was highly educated, as was his guest ("walls" member?), and the albums for review were dissapointing, but the fuc*ing ticket giveaway shite forced me to scan away.. A difficult enough task as RED seems to have 5 TXs in a gang.. Anyway, KLUB - nice signal, better then ++BPM++, but unfortunatly, the show i caught was plagued with bad RnB shit-hop arse - this didn`t seem to Bother the Texters, who were managing to fill 10-minute links for the presenter by texting thier heart's out, but after a promising start playing eclectic album cuts, and filling us in on the latest "Dis" match between some jumped up little faker and his equally fake faker of a nemesis, it all went downhill into the same old crap.. pity, as the station has a BIG listenership - evident from the casual style of the texts and the flow.. I think this station USED to be KISS?? whatever - it`s the one.. Far more popular then RED, and it`s bloody obvious why - because it Doesn`t Talk Down to it`s llisteners.. I felt RED were far too tied up in licking the arses of thier sponsors and pushing towards that elusive listener who likes Gigs and goes out on multiple weeknights, has a big disposable income, runs thier own business, is single/dating with no kids, and so on, while KLUB was in it for the Fun.. Remember FUN lads? No, i didn`t think so.. ++BPM++ on the other foot, was banging out the Drum & bass, and with easily the worst signal i have encountered in a while, was difficult to listen to while driving.. It had NO id's, NO DJ and no Ads, and dissapointingly, no mixing.. The choons faded out and were mixed over - sounded very Robot to me, but i didn`t stick on it long enuf to suss if it was manned.. Anyway, it was a breath of fresch air - made me smile, and made the journey easier.. The fact that someone is banging out the DnB ANYWHERE in Ireland is enough evidence for me that there is still hope for the world.. So, with this all in mid, i shot up to the Schmoke in record time - thanks to the total wankers on the road in front of me driving thos stupid people-carriers - and was greeted in Kildare with the Dublin Pirates - MESSY FM, and NOVA.. AS usual, NOVA was thumping away with the Housey Proggy angles, while on Messy FM, DJ FABIO was playing all 35 remixes of THE CRAZY FROG, and by the sounds of it, was pulling his plum VERY hard indeed as he did it.. he was managing 3 "PULSE FM" cuts per tune - now these are CUTS, not VOICEOVERS - Full CUTS, with rhythm punctuation and so on OVER the tunes!! Oh yes.. He was wanking ALL OVER the console.. Couldn`t wait to slap in another muffled jingle over the tunes.. my god he was irritating.. Sorry Fabio - i think it`s time you were told - STOP MUPPETING! most people get this behaviour out of thier system in the first summer they do hobby radio - when thier mates tell them to "for fuc*ssake lay off the bleeding jingles willyah.." So, i am telling you - LAY OFF THE FECKING JINGLES YOU MESSY UNIT YOU.. Now, don`t get me wrong, i respect what Fabio is at, and i know keeping PULSE on the air is not easy, and i know he must have the NRG and the drive to make it all happen - i just want to set him straight - and hopefully on the road to quality.. Anyone that gets on the air and provides a service for others, as a hobby, is due respect - but this respect soon evaporates when it`s shat all over by OBVIOUS muppetation. So, there. I said it. Jesus, fabio man, you should get some tapes of KLUB in cork, now THAT'S the way to do .txt messages and sound welcoming and comfortable and confident.. I am delevering this message on behalf of the young people of Dublin, Meath, Kildare and Wicklow who depend on Hobby radio for Honest-to-goodness full-on fun and distraction..PLEASE stop playing crappy voiceovers over the choons. Have you EVER had a request to "play them jingles man.."? no. So shutthefu*kup!!!!

And while i am in Rant mode. It's time i publicly expressed my dissatisfaction for ROBBIE BUTLER. But because i am a nice guy really, i will hold off, and see what arrives in the post in the next 10 days.

Ah yes. Another ShBank Holiday In the Can.. Mmm.. Cannn... Gotta love that Food in the Can.. Er.. Right. First order of Bizz is we seem to have been Given Notice to Vacate our Server In the UK.. Apparently the TapesFromTheAttic Demand is officially the Straw that broke the camel's Back.. Or it could just be Fate, or whatever.. Anyway.. Looks like i picked the wrong month to Do that.. Damn. So, Lets see how long we last.. I know the Demand has died down now for the shows there, it was the initial shock to the server of having them there that did it i reckon.. Ah yeah.. great fun..
