    This will take some imagination to realise it's true potential, but right now, i'm thinking of the value it has for inducing strobe-related fits, and for just stroking and bringing everywhere with me as backup for awkward silence moments. Obviously, it's the mother of all performance sequencers, like a binbag full of oldschool grid sequencers, dipped in the magic potion outta ASTERIX..

    UPDATE: after 24 hours, i am now elevating this from THATS NICE to DO WANT. There are a few on eBay, all averaging $600us, which is less then the price at thomann.de of 900euro here: http://www.thomann.de/ie/yamaha_tenori_on.htm

    I'm actually quite worried about a few things:

    *minijack audio outputs
    *only 1 midi port (either in or out?)
    *apparently no way to sync it to external clocks - possibly ANOTHER master-hog
    *been on the market for 2+ years, and i have never heard of it up to this week
    *far far far too expensive

    Having said that, it's now at DO WANT status, so it's only a matter of time before i have one. I'm thinking of switching to 100% noodles from the asian market to help even out the balence of payments on this one..

        oh man that is great fun... gives a good taster for how the real one would play..

        it all reminds me of the grid/blob programming on the old Dr. Rhythm boss drummachines.. just great fun to play with..

            More horror stories from the USA forum: http://www.tenori-onusa.com/forum/vi....php?f=2&t=408

            from this forum: http://www.tenori-onusa.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2

            from reading that post, the thing is a glitchy & drifty lemon!

            I also gather from posts that the Tenori-on was meant to be distributed on a territory-by-territory basis, with each region strictly dealing with it's userbase. So, in Norway it was costing $1500, while in the Usa it was $699-$999 depending.. Meanwhile, in c.EU it's STILL ¬999euro!

            There are NO clues about software upgrades or firmware upgrades, just a small amount of debate on what SHOULD be addressed in an upgrade.. Yet, it's about 2 years since it was launched, and no breeze of an article claiming it's NOW EVEN BETTER..

            I'm shocked at how crap this is turning out to be, but, i STILL want one.

                The new Tenori-on is now public.. It addresses many of the gripes we had about it -

                * it now has MIDI sync in & out
                * better build
                * the price has dropped..
                * some enhancement of sample handling

                on the down side:

                * still a fuc*ing ripoff price
                * still sounds like a box of dried peas
                * new model is pink

                expect it for <1000euro at a dealer near You soon..

                  Got one
                  Love it

                  Its like those orange stickers T, the ones you had arranged on the door frame of your spare room in made to look like a James Bond movie keycode lock.

                  It does work.
                  It is the dogs.
                  they said it couldnt be done but I have it working on a battery pack.
                  it was 250 in M.M. (brand new),
                  they also have a couple of shop soiled ones, id guess they be delighted to swap for hard cash.

                  Midi works (y-cord-type in & out midi cable supplied)
                  Great for triggering samples in external unit.
                  Great for making tunes with just crappy internal sounds on sofa/ out in the freezing cold etc.

                  Firmware update has swing mode.

                  it does drift, .
                  but it does have a loop sync reset function that i have been using on the fly.
                  there i was thinking a hardware step sequencer would hold sync.

                  ***Edit ****
                  well, maybe, its just my loose samples, and not a sync issue,
                  I havent noticed any sync loss with the patterns since this post.
                  It's also powered only by mains at the moment.******

                  Cutting samples up a assigning the slices to each row is mesmerising,
                  Playing Dubstep Wobbly bass is ace.
