  • Cheap Synth & Noise Kits.. interesting..

    http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/index.php?page=HOME

Interesting collection of very very cheap synth and noise kits.. They lack cases and faceplates and blah, but for that price, i think You can get creative..

here's the SOUNDLAB kit http://www.healthclub-music.com/electricjoyland.htm built, with added patch points on banana plugs, and a really nice faceplate.. If you lurk on the healthclub site, you can see they quite like the MFOS kits, but this soundlab with patchpoints is their finest creation to date..

Sure, it's pretty basic stuff, comparable to a PAiA kit synth, minus the MIDI, but listen to how it mangles beats and things in the MP3 demos! Not bad for a simple AD envelope, 1 LFO, 2 basic oscillators and a filter.. Yes, the filter has a Bandpass, and the AD envelope can be made loop - and the patchpoints make for some pain-experiments, but the palete vs. cost ratio is right - abt $400us inc. shipping..

I suppose buying the Kit and making it is the true hardcore 1337 way, but You gotta respect the work put in on that healthclub jobbie..

Given how 95% of music these days is made up of samples or virtual crap, this line of kits is a pretty good option if you want a REAL analogue synth, but don't want to pay like 2 grand on eBay to some dreamer selling a Pro-1/battered SH-101!

I will be bidding on the Healthclub Soundlab on eBay to encourage them, as it's a noble persuit, and i have a bit of banana-plug gear that has been a bit lonely, and needs a little brother..

Here's their 16-step sequencer kit doing it's thing..

Ok, these guys are in Australia, and among the kewl stuff is a full kit, all boards, bits, knobs and a nice case for the MUSIC FROM OUTER SPACE kit, for like <200euro, and a new version of the MONOWAVE synth (PPG wave cloneish) for ~500euro..

            Check them out..

I am all over the PIXIE synth they do.. it's SO sound of the now.. although.. in fact, the whole shop REEKS of the win.. The AVR synth looks nice, and digital.. And the ASM2 WIZARD looks like it could rival any of the decent Modulars out there.. I could REALLy go mental here.. mmm..

But that wasp looks like a buzz hehe And it's black & Yellow too which is pretty cool does just make it that little bit older lookin, i actually thought they were tarnished plastic, So tim you gunna use the regular faceplate, you gunna Go for something funkier ?

I actually got totally sidetracked on this, ended up getting a CHAMELEON - the total opposite of these, as it's a software/digital monster, but the concept grabbed me, as did the involvement of the original MONOWAVE designer..

It arrived today actually, and i'm pi$$ed that i won't get to play with it till after pOxegen is done.. ah well..

But, i MAY have some $$ in september, and wintertime is the right time for building things time...

Actually, again this week i re-discovered good old analogue synths, again, they just never EVAR get boring - as long as they have good modulation routing that is..

Speaking of WASP - one went on ebay recently for 900sterling!!!!! Crazy for a basic DCO + membrane keyboard!!!!!!
