We are gradually gathering the "lost" episodes from backup media used at RTÉ at the times of broadcast. Finding it all is hard work, as the methods changed as technology changed.

These backups are on CDr, DVD-rw and then eventually Hard Disk.

This week We recovered these episodes: 123 (19th January 2008),177,189,194,208, and 283 thru' 307. We also located a large collection of CD and MiniDisk that appear to be "Late Night Sessions" 1st generation media from 2001 to March 2009. It's unclear if this collection includes shows that were Recorded from Satellite feeds or Downloaded.

One WN episode recovered, from July of 2007, was a Live show from AWAKENINGS. This show was incomplete, the file containing only the 2nd hour of the show, then 1 hour of the next show on 3voor12. This happened due to the 1 hour difference between Europe and Ireland. The "work sheet" for that recording must have been in Europe (Amsterdam) Timezone This reminds us of how shows were distributed at the time - over Satellite audio sub-carrier!!

As We are upon the 20th year of Whitenoise, I tried to track down the "actually lost" episodes of the show, that would have been podcasts from Vpro in Holland.

The oldest "official" iTunes feed Vpro were using, starting at #291, running to #315.

They were using "Blubrry PowerPress/1.0.5" to publish the podcast, which is a plugin for "Wordpress" - a CMS they must have been using to make their website. We also used wordpress at 2fm for a while, until it became a magnet for hackers.

They were using "podPress/8.1" at that stage - another Wordpress plugin.

Both show the audio was stored on a container at: http://download.omroep.nl/

http://omroep.nl/ now resolves to the Radio3 website, as it was their own media server. It's had a "please remove this link as We are gone and won't be back" style message now. This includes a "there will be no re-direction" marker.

They deleted ALL of the media once held there. Just nuked it. Lazy Cunts.

I assume the episodes before this were served some other way - there is no trace anywhere. I mean ANYWHERE.

Dave added a button to his website near the end of 2006 to link to WN, which looks like a Vpro page "/whitenoise" - that was once again a wordpress page, and linked to the generic wordpress page for all vpro podcasts.
